Indigo Bunting, 4 x 4 inches, Oil on Board Click to Bid I'm fortunate to have a mated pair of Indigo Buntings visiting my bird feeder.  I say that because I've had the bird feeder for over 10 years and my first sighting was last week.  The male of this species sports stunning ocean blue feathers...some teal in there also. I paint with a very limited palette, so I was challenged to come up with the right mixtures.  But it wasn't very long before I realized that mixing the right "Indigo" color wouldn't be enough.  So I subdued everything else, to include his cute little beak.

5 x 5 inches, Oil on Panel- $ 55.-  To etsy The word is out that bird seed abounds where I live.  I saw this young male with a female at the feeder.  When I first consulted my NY birder manual, I thought it must be a house finch.  I didn't think I'd be so blessed to have a purple finch at the feeder.  But I took a closer look knowing the House Finch and Purple Finch look very similar but the later is very rare.  So I really studied my birdies and I can confidently exclaim I had a visit from a male Purple Finch, got pictures to prove it and now, this painting.

"Bird Talk" 4 x 4 inches, Oil on Gessoboard $ 55.  Click to buy Inspired to paint this little fella by those that visit my bird feeders.  Chickadees are such nice birds.  From what I observe, they pick a seed from the feeder and then fly to a nearby branch to eat it...thus giving another bird a turn.  As pretty as goldfinches are, they're squatters.  Sometimes it takes an eviction notice to get them to share with other birds.

Available on Etsy About 4 days ago, I put up my two black sunflower seed bird feeders.  While walking my two puppies, I couldn't help but notice all the bird chatter coming from high tree tops. The neighborhood birds have just found the feeders and spreading the word.  That's what I wanted.   I painted Edward in honor of my hard working birdies.  I've never viewed a bird that I didn't smile at! "Snow Cold" 4 x 4 inch Oil Painting On Panel. $ 40 Buy on Etsy We have snow here in Midwest New York so I added snow to this painting. Yesterday, I was inspired to put up my indoor Christmas decorations.  I've decided that from this year forward, They'll go up the third week of November and I'll skip the harvest type decorations I usually have until after Thanksgiving. I LOVE Christmas and Christmas lights.  I have a vintage string of lights that live over my sliding doors to the deck so I can plug them in on a rainy day. Notice the word "Live"...that's because they stay up year round.   I still love to get in the car in the evening and drive to neighborhoods to see the displays, some of which are breathtaking.   

Goldbird, 4 x 4 inches, Oil on Panel Click Here to Bid Sometimes, what happens at the easel, stays at the easel.  In my case, gets scraped off.  Also known to happen to artists is a rare phenomenon called happy accidents...This piece is an example of that.  Not sure what happened, but I like the outcome.

I decided that today I should paint a Hummingbird.  It was a tough and long labor, but Homer is the result.  Hummingbirds are such delicate creatures and tiny like a new baby.  Some Hummingbirds are iridescent and that is what I wanted to capture in this painting.
