Click to Buy Although, I haven't posted new paintings at the frequency I usually do, I've been busy in the studio.  I completed a larger commissioned painting and doing lots of homework with an on-line course.  And to guarantee complete stress...I'm also trying to build a website. 

"Little Visitor" 5 x 5 inches, Oil on Gessoboard Buy on Paypal  $ 60. This little girl, is inspired by a recent post to my facebook page.  Some people do a great job sharing their time and resources with Hummingbirds.  One woman set up many feeders for Hummingbirds just outside her living room where she keeps one window open.   She enjoyed a little broad billed Hummingbird visitor who wanted to perch on her finger.  After a short while she flew to to feeder again to join the others but while the visit took place, someone filmed it and thus posted on facebook. I have to say, these kind of posts make my day...maybe my week.

"Baby Hummingbird No. 1" - 4 x 4 inches, Oil on Gessoboard Buy with Paypal Today's little painting features an almost ready to fly baby Hummingbird.  I wanted to paint a Hummingbird today and looked on Google for inspiration.  A 3rd grade teacher found a baby Hummingbird while doing garden work. She must be a very special teacher because after asking her husband to make a little cardboard home complete with a twig for perching, she brought him to school.   For two weeks, the class cared for and posted some videos and photos.  More to the story tomorrow along with another painting of this same little bird.

"Spying Rufous Hummingbird" 4 x 4 inches, Oil on Board -Sold Well, maybe I pushed the greens found on the Rufous more on the teal side, but I've got a licence to do just that.  Painted with a palette knife, I thoroughly enjoyed creating this piece.

"Herbert" 4 x 4 inches, Oil on Panel Sold, thank you! He's adorable and he knows it.  He's the result of me trying to paint a different subject today when what I wanted to paint was another Hummingbird.  So the first attempts at painting were scraped and shortly after Herbert came to be.

"Joey" 4 x 4 inches, Oil on Panel with Palette Knife S old, thank you Joey is really the second Hummingbird painted in this Fall 2013 Hummingbird Series.  I thought I was finished, but Joey said: "oh no you don't.  I need a little more work from you."  So I put him on a drying easel and told him to be patient, that we'd figure out what to do next together.  Joey wanted to be a star in the midst of bright light.   Today, together we accomplished that feat.

Bad Hair Day, 4 x 4 inches, Oil on Panel  Sold, Thank you I know Hummingbirds don't have bad hair days, but this kinda just happened and I decided to go with it.  Sometimes paintings take on a life of their own and this painting is a prime example of that theory.  Poor little guy.  He's just so cute!

I decided that today I should paint a Hummingbird.  It was a tough and long labor, but Homer is the result.  Hummingbirds are such delicate creatures and tiny like a new baby.  Some Hummingbirds are iridescent and that is what I wanted to capture in this painting.

Watercolor Hummingbird l, 2.5 x 3.5 inches Buy now on Etsy This is an ACEO or Artist Card Edition or Original.  In this case, original of a little lady Hummingbird.  I've painted this pose twice in oils.  I'm hoping to do a series of watercolor Hummingbirds.   On another note, got my Shingles immunization today.  A very easy shot to take, so to all those baby-boomers who have turned 60, GET IT.  I'm so glad I did. I also was blessed to remove the net off my strawberry patch to find that the plants are loaded with berries.  OK, they're still white, but maybe in a week.  I mulched the patch and put the net back on to keep my berries protected from bugs and critters.  After more than 8 days of rain, it was so-o-o good to be outside in the garden again.

Tah-Dah! 6 x 6 inches, Oil on Board with Palette Knife I was going to give this special Hummingbird a first name, but the pose was just so about to take a bow.  I had to name it Tah-Dah!

Melissa and Iris is another Hummingbird painting.  Melissa is enjoying this budding Iris and I LOVE Iris.  I think it is the most beautiful flower.  Unfortunately for me, I don't grow any, but I know a place close by that does.  I plan on making a trip in the near future.
