Long Tall Maples

9 x 12 Inches, Oil on Gessoboard - Sold - Thank you! These trees live in my side yard.  In fact, every time I hang laundry on the clothesline, I look right at them and more times than not think, what a nice painting they'd make.  So finally, I got around to painting them. An artist has to be crazy to paint so much green.  I don't remember where (or from who) I first heard: "If I wasn't crazy, I'd be nuts"   But saying just that applies here.  Really, green can make any artist go crazy because it's second only to orange in the garish and unruly color category.  'Nary a time to use it straight from the tube. No, an artist must mix their greens.  And don't think mixing blue and yellow will get you a nice shade of green.  No, it's NOT that easy.  But, I took on the challenge of green and if you knew how much grey is in the green grass and how much green is in the grey trees... Well let's just say they are very closely related.  ...

October's Grey Titmouse

October's Grey Titmouse, 4 x 4 inches, Oil on Gessoboard Click to Buy The bird feeding station at my house is in full swing.  I'm enjoying lots of activity from a variety of birds and snapping pictures for future paintings.  As I was refilling the feeders today, a little chickadee swooped and almost landed on me.  Maybe next time.

Memory Patch

"Memory Patch" 6 x 6 inches, Oil on Board I've been noticing tall weedy grasses peering from the dramatic and dark backdrops cast by shade trees.  The combination makes for a great painting and I've told myself several times as I drive by, you can paint that from memory.  So today, I did.

One Foot Over Chickadee

"One Foot Over Chickadee" 4 x 4 inches, Oil on Panel $ 45. Sold- Thank you Hey, listen up everyone...Spring has arrived!  How can you be so sure, you ask?  Because my allergies are acting up and that's because the trees are budding.  When the trees loose their leaves, same thing.  Oh and in-between... there's the ragweed that induces hay fever.   Now, let there be no doubt, I still love Spring and so does this little birdie.

Three for a Fish Dinner

"Three for a Fish Dinner", 6 x 6 inches, oil on panel Click to bid Another painting from my Adirondack series.  These men knew what they wanted for their Saturday night dinner and were ready to do what it took.  Of course with the small outboard motor, whey would have to hang in their spot for a while.   We were having our family reunion...not that we are a brawling bunch of folk, but we did make our share of noise.  Our younger members sure must have agitated any fishlife with jumping cannonball and somewhat professional dives into the lake every other minute or so.  Maybe we motivated the fish to their end of the lake.

Fawn

4 x 4 inches, Oil on Board Available through Paypal It's still winter outside.  At least it stopped snowing.  To pass the winter, I've been going into old sketchbooks to make some new paintings from and today's is no exception.  Although I intended to stay with painting a solo adult deer, a little fawn face kept emerging, so I decided to go with it and added some spots.  Below is the sketch. This deer was right outside the studio window.  I'm so blessed to live on 4 acres of woods.

Snowed In

5 x 5 inches, Oil on Board Today, when I started this painting, it was bright with snow and sunny outside.  A few hours later, its windy, dark and raining!  Almost direct opposites.   This shack is located in a village close to a restaurant that is a favorite in the community.  A small stream also flows by.  I originally painted it plein air about 5 years ago and after it dried, I scanned then printed a black and white copy to check the values.   On Saturday, I did a complete studio clean-out and found the old value study.  Decided to make a small painting from it taking a little more artist licence than I did back then.

I Want My Mama

12 x 9 inches, Oil on Board  This is not a daily painting as it took two days to start and complete.  I'm a big fan of Black Bears of the Adirondack variety.  My mom was born and raised in Tupper Lake, NY and I still have precious family there.  My decorating style is Adirondack Lodge.  I also have several black bear paintings of mine hanging on my walls.  I think this may be another one! On another note, "Draw a Dinosaur Day is January 30, every year.  I plan to enter it again this year.  2012 was my first year entering.  No pressure, as you can make a doodle or a painting.  Just do it and upload it on January 30.
