July's Daisies

"July's Daisies" 8 x 8 inches, Oil on Board  $ 120.   Click to Buy I've been working at creating this painting longer than I thought.  Florals are deceptively difficult to capture in paint.  I'm sure if I painted more flowers, I'd have a better plan of attack.  Anyway, the daisies are from my daisy patch, which is bursting with blooms.

Last Lilacs

6 x 6 inches, Oil on Board Sold!  Thank you Yesterday, my neighbor, Millie phoned to ask if I would like some lilacs to paint.  Mille has two mature lilac trees that produce beautiful fragrant blooms.  She has been faithfully giving me some for more than 15 seasons now.  Thank you Millie! I like the push and pull of the brushwork and pigments on this painting On another note, my wonderful daughter gave a surprise birthday party and it really was a surprise!  I so enjoyed seeing family that live a Sunday;s drive or longer, all gathered together.  The older one gets, the people who attend a birthday party are more valuable than any gift.

Hugs and Kisses

4 x 4 inches, Oil on Board S old - Thankyou This little Hummingbird looks like he's going to give a hug and a kiss.  He's very happy.

The Escape Artists

The Escape Artists Big Bottomed Bees, 4 x 4 inches Oil on Board, Sold This is another commissioned BBBs.  The patron wanted a pair of BBBs flying away with a Sunflower, which is her favorite flower.  So I must say, the first attempt was a scraper and I approached it again today with a bit of fear.  I'm so glad it turned out better than I thought it could.   I love painting Big Bottomed Bees.  I'm off to paint another one for auction at Daily Paintworks.  I'll post it when I'm finished.

The importance of Hummingbirds

Blue Eyed Rufous Hummingbird Oil on Board, 4 x 4 inches This little guy is very happy to have found natural garden flowers.  Probably there are more than a few nectar feeders around also.   Most people love Hummingbirds and I do too.  I'm pretty sure that the national news had a spot earlier this month on how difficult it is for the Hummingbirds that migrate this year.  The weather and resulting drought has limited natural feeding and they are in threat of not thriving.    Hummingbird lovers though, are not going to let them feel that nobody cares.  There has been a plethora of nectar feeders placed all throughout the back yards of Main St. USA  to bring our buddies through a tough summer.   This painting will be offered for auction on www.dailypaintworks.com Just click on the auction tab and place your bid!

In the Pink

In the Pink Oil on Board, 5 x 5 inches   This week's challenge for Daily Paintworks is to paint a rose.  Florals of any type require a lot of soft colors.  Muted colors.  I remember seeing beautiful floral paintings years ago, by an artist who exclusively painted florals and she approached each painting the same way:  Soft  muted colors and brushstroke whispers. Although I almost gave up because my first two attempts were scrapers, I'm glad I stuck with it.  I'm pleased with this painting.  It will be up for auction at www.dailypaintworks.com

June Daisies & A Bee

http://www.dailypaintworks.com/buy/auction/61715 June Daisies & A Bee 5 x 5 inches, Oil on Board   I have daisies in two different flower beds on my property.  I also have more than one area with raspberries, both black and red.  So for the past few days after supper, I've been outside picking, watering, weeding and cutting.   For today's painting, I decided to return to the garden and clip a few very fresh daisies.  I've been experimenting with painting bees and decided to add one to this piece.  What is left for today is studio cleanup and then order dinner-in from our favorite Italian takeout. My wishes for a blessed weekend go out today. - Brande

Mother's Day Rose

Mother's Day Rose Oil on Paper, 5 x 10 inches $80. This beautiful red rose was one of many handed out by the men of my church.  Better yet, they gathered to cook a fantastic Mother's Day breakfast.  They could open a restaurant! I still have my mom and she lives with us in a studio apartment we made from our Master Bedroom Suite.  She is going to be 84 years old in a few weeks.  In the mail, she received a touching card from her granddaughter, my daughter.  I asked her after she read it to me, if when she was childless for the first seven years of her marriage to my dad, did she ever think she would receive a Mother's Day card.  I know those barren Mother's Days were painful, just as they are for couples with the same problem today.   My mom has a very special collection of cards, letters report cards and school drawings placed lovingly inside a special box.  I've opened that box several times for a trip back in time.  I reme...

Dandy Lions

Dandy Lions  Dandy Lions, 6 x 6 inches, Oil on Board, $ 50.00  On a brief morning walk with Cooper & Cookie I noticed a eruption of Dandelions on quite a bit of property all around and to include mine.  I decided that taking a few photos would suffice and then created this painting. I 'm off to wash my brushes and get some work done in the garden...peas and carrots need to be sowed.  To all that read this, I wish you a blessed weekend. - Brande

Daisies in Blue

Daisies in Blue, 5 x 7 inches, oil,  $ 50.  Another group of daisies in another creamer found on a consignment shop treasure hunt.  I used to collect creamers and tea pots until I ran out of space.  I'm pleased with the brush work for the daisies and also feel success with the high glaze on the creamer. - Brande
