4 x 4 inches, Oil on Board Click to Bid Drying on the easel now is this male Hummingbird loaded with color.  I'm thinking he's a Rufous but not sure.  I'll have to do some research.  Caesar, who is listed below, is a wanted hummer and this artist is happy.  Although I do not know the identities of the bidders currently duking it out on www.dailypaintworks.com I thank them for staying in the game.  The auction ends tonight and the auction for Orange Julius starts today.

3.5 x 2.5 inches, Watercolor Cardinal Another inspiration at my bird feeding station this morning.  This little fellow was yelling at a rogue squirrel.  This cardinal needs the bad boy crows to enforce the orders he's throwin' down...last I looked the squirrel was holding his stomach laughing. On another note, I had to run some errands today and I hate to drive during winter. So I decided to bring along my camera and get some sources for future paintings.

Buy with Paypal As of this posting the Roman Catholic Cardinals are still in conclave to discover the next pope.  I'm not Roman Catholic but I do have a wonderment about the this process because it's so entwined in mystery.   This little watercolor Cardinal was at my bird feeder where he grabbed a sunflower seed and quickly flew to a tree limb to perch and enjoy.  After which he waits his turn to return.   

6 x 6 inches, Oil on Board Does this birdie look familiar?  She got a complete make-over.  This sweetie hopes to make her way to the Higbee Gallery for the annual 6 x 6 competition and sale.  When finished with the makeover, I had to come up with a title.  I thought the bird looked like it was wearing clothing.  So why not say wedding finery!   Below is my first attempt at this character.   

5 x 5 inches, oil on board I love to see the birds gathering at and near my bird feeding and watering station.  Some birdies (finches) are just plan piggies that sit on the perch of the bird feeder and just have at it.  Other's like this Chickadee will pluck a seed and fly to a branch to eat it, allowing space and time for other birdies to get a seed or two...or one hundred!  All told, I have two feeders and one small bird bath.  I have to refill both each day.   

6 x 6 inches, Oil on Board This bold character was spied by me while driving yesterday.  Thankfully, I wasn't far from home and when I got back in the house, I grabbed my sketchbook and did a quick sketch.    Today,  I really wanted to capture the "Oh Yeah" attitude crows can sport.  This guy was way up high, perched on electrical wire.  Below is the sketch of yesterday.   

5 x 5 inches, Oil on Board http://www.dailypaintworks.com/buy/auction/82846     First, let me say how sorry I am for my fellow New Yorkers downstate who got slammed by Sandy.  Next, my heart turns to those others living in the states on the Eastern Seaboard who also got slammed.     I wasn't sure what to expect where I live, because of the wide swath of this storm, so I went out yesterday shopping for things like lots of bottled water, batteries, even two new flashlights.   My biggest worry was the wind and the 4 acres of trees that live here with me.  Some pretty close to the house.  I could just see in my mind one of those trees falling on the house.  But the Lord was good to our trees, they endured and we in this house did well.   All night long we had wind and even now as I write this, I can hear wind.  My little feeding station is being temporally ignored by my feathered babies.  They ...

The Amazing Skateboarding Cardinal 4 x 4 inches, Oil on Board OK, this little guy is not on a skateboard, but his pose sure looks like he is.  He's so cute!  My bird feeder set up complete with three feeders and one small birdbath is a big hit with the birdies in my neighborhood.  There is a chipmunk who tries to climb up the pole to get to the feeders, but the birds frighten him off.   Yesterday I registered my bird feeding station with National Wildlife.  It qualifies because I have 4 acres of woods and lots of places for birdies to make a home.  They also keep Cookie, my Schnoodle entertained.    Off to wash my brushes and start my weekend.

Monday's Chickadee 5 x 5 inches, Oil on Board The neighborhood birds have found my feeders!  I have to move my small desk downstairs to face the window where the feeding station is.  There are so many wonderful little feathered sweethearts outside plucking away at the black sunflower seeds.  I also have a fruit and nut mixture and just recently added a small birdbath.   We are enjoying mild weather, but the colder weather will return and I want my birdies to be able to count on me for food.
