Rufous Hummingbird

The size of this piece is a part of Daily Paint Works weekly challenge. I decided today would be the day I'd paint a Hummingbird and the Rufous are the largest North American species. Mine has my interpretation of what this bird really looks like.

I don't know about you, but I have more than once froze in utter fear when one of these little guys have flown by...because they sound like giant bees. They fly so fast, you have to do a double take and then realize your safe and have been blessed by sighting the bird.

I'm not Roman Catholic but I do have a wonderment about the this process because it's so entwined in mystery. This little watercolor Cardinal was at my bird feeder where he grabbed a sunflower seed and quickly flew to a tree limb to perch and enjoy. After which he waits his turn to return.

Just love these adorable playful creatures. This otter and artist wish all a very safe and happy New Year's eve celebration. I have my wonderful granddaughter visiting and soon we'll be hitting the market to load up a cart full of junk food.
